Iris Lark Iris is cooking in the corner of the clinic, her attention in the vat she's stirring slowly and methodically. She's humming while she stirs and everything in the clinic seems quiet and content for the moment. Maybe because Achilles is elsewhere causing trouble? One can never tell.
Dusty Rose Dusty Rose pokes her head into what passes for the medical facilities in middle of Shantytown. "Hello? Is there a doctor in the house? So to speak..."
Iris Lark Iris turns and waves Dusty in, a smile on her fae-like face. "Come in, come in. What happened to you?" She gestures towards one of the beds and moves to wash her hands.
Dusty Rose "If yer not busy," Dusty replies as she ambles in. "I think I need a lookin' over." She sidles over to sit herself upon the indicated bed. "Took a good whallop upside the head fightin' some bandits the other day." Lifts a hand to one temple to brush back some of her bangs away from it. "Bruisin's going down, but I've been getting fits of throbbin' that come and go. Keeps throwin' me off."
Iris Lark "Even if I'm busy I make time for my patients." Iris says, walking over to carefully examine Dusty. "You said that they hit you on the head?! Geez they're brutal." She shakes her head and gentle fingers probe at Dusty's skull. "So tell me about yourself, what's your name, and how old are you and all of that."
Dusty Rose Probing questions while probing wounds time it seems. "Dustina Rose. Most folks 'round here just call me Dusty though... and throws off strangers that expect it to be a boy's name." She snickers a little at that, but it turns into a faint wince and a squint as the throbbing acts up again. "I'm.. uh.. 30..." She pauses to do a quick count and flicks a few fingers. ".. 31. Work in the mechanic shop in town. When there's work to be done there. Which ain't often lately."
Iris Lark There is a method to Iris' madness. The questions are in case the bop to the head was more serious than it seems. The Healer nods along to the answers, making the appropriate noises at the appropriate times. Finally she speaks up again. "I like the name Dustina, I bet people give you a lot of grief over it though. If they do, let me know. I'll get Achilles to bop them on the head for you." She wets a rag/bandage with some cold water and drapes it over Dusty's forehead. "You look like you're gonna be okay, honestly. No concussion and your eyes are moving around in your head the way that they're meant to."
Dusty Rose "Good to know." Dusty flinchs a little as the damp rag is laid against her forehead, but it feels rather nice really. "Was hoping it wasn't much, but if there's one thing I've learned workin' a machine shop it's ya can't be too careful, even about seemingly little bumps and bruises... And it ain't really a problem. Just funny seein' they're faces sometimes."
Iris Lark "Well you'll need to come back in a bit so I can make sure that you're not suddenly kerfluffled." Iris says, leaning against the bed. "So Dusty, how well do you know people in town? I'm thinking I need to be more social, but I'm kind of shy. Is there a place that people go where they won't be scary?"
Dusty Rose Dusty Rose leans back a bit, resting her hands on the bed to brace herself. "Well most folks probably go to the saloon, or the casino that's part of it. But iffen ya wanna avoid the, ah, rowdy sorts that might not be the best of places to start." Kicks her feet idly as she thinks. "There might be a diner on the other side of town. Smaller scale stuff. Or the gardens, maybe."
Iris Lark "I heard something about a noodle shop?" Iris timidly asks, giving Dusty a quick look before she gazes back at her hands. "I'm not..*afraid* much. Achilles will go with me and make people be nice, but still..I want to start small."
Dusty Rose Dusty Rose shrugs after a pause. "There might be? Probably a lotta places tucked away a person don't know yet. Might be somethin' down in Vault Town, but I don't get down there very often." Or at all really. They tend to have plenty of techie types to do their own handiwork.
Iris Lark "I found a pip-boy when I was scavenging." Iris says, holding up her arm. "All I need is a suit and I could pretend to be a Vault Dweller." She says with a giggle, her eyes on the thing on her arm. "I'm still pretending that it's a power fist."
Dusty Rose Dusty Rose lets out a whistle. "Nice find! I don't think you'd need a disguise, but those are pretty useful I hear all the same." Leans over a little to poke at the Pip-Boy, though she's careful not to actually hit any of the controls. "A bit impressive it's intact."
Iris Lark "It sometimes makes funny noises or talks to me." Iris says, shrugging as she moves back over to the cookpot. "I guess it'll come in handy at some point, at least Achilles thinks so. He wants me to keep it."
Dusty Rose Dusty Rose rubs her chin with a thought. "Maybe you two should visit Vault Town, or that electronics shop. See if they have an operator's manual for it." The cool rag on her forehead seems to be helping, that throbbing has gone down a lot more.
Iris Lark "I'll ask him to take me." iris decides, setting aside the stirring again as she walks back over to Dusty, pulling up the rag, rewetting it and placing it back on her forehead. "If he says no, I'll just sneak out again."
Dusty Rose Dusty Rose snickers a bit at the sneaking out part. Tries not to squirm too much while the wet rag is being reapplied. "Must be nice havin someone like that to watch out for ya though. Especially in the Wastelands."
Iris Lark "It is nice." Iris says quietly, folding her arms over her chest. "I wouldn't trade my Achilles for anything." She adds, turning to spoon out some soup from the vat. "Hungry?" She asks, a smile on her face.
Dusty Rose Dusty Rose says, "My pa always said to never turn down offerin' of food. Impolite to the person kind enough to offer to share."
Iris Lark Iris walks the bowl over to Dusty and slides a spoon in. It's meat with some root veggies in a thick broth. Iris goes to get another bowl for herself and she walks over to the large chair in the corner, curling up in the middle of it. "Are you going to stay in the settlement?"
Dusty Rose "Eh, I'll swing in iffen folks need some machinin' done, but probably not fully. Between the room I got next to the mechanic shop and the outpost, I've got no shortage of room and plenty of work to keep busy when not adventurin." She scoops up some in the spoon and takes a sip. "Not bad. Always best when it's still warm," she adds before gulping down the entire spoonful.
Iris Lark "I'm getting better at cooking, the last settlement I was at..we had an old woman who did the cooking. She tried to teach me some." Iris says, her eyes on the cooking vat. "But here I have to take care of that or spend caps. Everything is new."
Dusty Rose Dusty Rose nods her head in understanding. "At least there's a few farms and ranches around here, you can get stuff pretty fresh iffen its in season. It's things that gotta be shipped from other settlements that cost all the rare caps."
Iris Lark "I get paid pretty good for the work I do." Iris says, spooning some more stew in her mouth. She chews for a few moments and then adds. "People keep asking me if I'm going to move into town. I like it out here though, less fuss."
Dusty Rose "Don't see no reason to move," Dusty agrees between spoonfuls. "You do somethin' important, folks know where to find ya."
Iris Lark "I just wrap people up and feed them occasionally. I'm pretty happy that I haven't had to birth any babies here yet." Iris says, her nose wrinking. "I'm not a big fan of that, people scream something awful. The man and the woman."
Dusty Rose Dusty Rose stifles a snickering, so she doesn't dribble any of her broth. "I hear it's usually the MAN that passes out first. Granted that probably is a purdy weird thing to see, living thing comin' outta another living thing like that."
Iris Lark "Yeah, it's not pretty." Iris concedes, trying to press her lips together against a grin. "But that's all you see lately! Babies everywhere! It's like it's an epidemic!" She shakes her head slowly and glances at Dusty. "I'm never having babies."
Dusty Rose Dusty Rose laughs in return. "I'd rather some nice critters or a robot. More useful than a bawlin' bundle of poop-makin'."
Iris Lark Iris laughs and nods in agreement. "Have you met Deathbot yet?" Her eyes light up and she shifts in her seat, obviously keen on the subject. "He's pretty neat, he even talks, though I don't understand Bzt."
Dusty Rose "Doubt many folks can. But still better than the folks that use a lotta words but never -say- anythin important." Dusty puts the bowl to her hips and tips back a little to gulp down the end of the broth after having eaten the meat and veggies out of it.
Iris Lark Iris gives Dusty a considering look, getting to her feet after she puts her bowl aside. She pulls the towel from her forehead and gazes into her eyes, moving her finger as she watches how Dusty reacts. "You're looking a sight better than when you arrived. I think you'll be fine to go, if you've a need to."
Dusty Rose Dusty Rose is very good at watching small things move! Not really a surprise considering how many moving parts she must look at in a day. "I should be gettin over to the shop. Doubt there'll be much work there, but I need to collect some stuff to fix up something we found in that outpost we cleared the raiders outta." Once Iris is done she hands the bowl back to her. "Thanks fer the vittles. Now I ain't gotta stop for that on my way too."
Iris Lark "No problem." Iris says, taking the bowl and placing it in hers as she sets it aside for washing. "Come back anytime, even if you're not injured. Maybe I'll come and see your shop?" She asks, her teeth briefly catching her bottom lip.
Dusty Rose Dusty Rose scoots herself off the bed. "Sure, swing by some time. Not that there's much to see. Or if ya ever need something put back together. I like to keep busy when I can." She stretchs a little, then shrugs her leather jacket back on as she heads for the exit. "Either way, see ya later doc."
Iris Lark "See you Dusty! I'll come check on you soon!" Iris says, a happy grin on her face as she waves goodbye. "Stay safe, no more knocks to the head!"
Dusty Rose Dusty Rose retorts back before stepping out, "Tell that to the bandits!"
