Qwillis     At 3 different tables within Qwillis' lab, there are the 'Big Book of Science' open on them. Each one had a different section open and each one had an experiment that it looks like was in the book, being replicated in the lab. Qwillis, for his part, was working at the main table, a set of chemicals there that he was carefully mixing between vials.
Eden Eden enters the lab excited for her first lesson. She walks around the tables, taking in the equipment used and pieces needed. She looks carefully at the first science book she comes to and is immediately absorbed comparing the experiment on the table to the book. It takers her slightly too long to remember her mannders! Popping her face out of the book she says "Hi Quillis! So what secrets of the universe are you uncovering today!:
Qwillis     Qwillis almost loses the vial in his mechanical hand. That third finger suddenly going limp, causing him to juggle it a second as Eden comes in. Carefully putting it and the other one down, he'd turn to face her with a chuckle. "Just working on some chemicals to deal with the mutants. I'm trying to see if I can come up with a good way to negate their toughness by sheer being a mutant.."
Eden Eden's face goes from excited to serious "I hear mutant and I can't help but worry. Has there been any research done on curing Ashur? And didn't that scientist have a way to kill them? I was very upset that day, maybe I didn't understand." Eden looks closer at what Qwillis is doing, trying to wrap her mind around the pieces that make up a whole she doesn't yet understand.
Qwillis     Q shakes his head a little. "The scientist had the original formula. As well as a cure for it. The root, however.. mutated. Thus, the mutants." Q would pick up the pieces, mindful of that extra finger once more to start the sifting process. "This, on the other hand, is based on the fact they are mutants. I'm trying to come up with a chemical compound that basically.. inverts it. Tries to unmutate them. Violently." He'd shrug a little then. "I haven't seen Ashur around to try and help him out.. I'd be happy to do so, if we can get him to sit still in my lab without breaking it.. or me.."
Eden Eden smiles a bit "Well I'll ask him to come see you, if you don't mind. Anyway, so how does this work. How do you know where to even begin? Do you just pick up something, pour it on the samples and see what happens? Why is the equipment set up this way in particular? I have about a billion questions. Where do we start?"
Qwillis     Qwillis chuckles at Eden, settling the last two vials down in the holders. "We start at the beginning and see what you know. How well versed are you in science? Do you understand the scientific method?"
Eden Eden nods. "yes, I know the method. Observe, question, research, hypothesis, experiment, analyze, conclusion, Right?" Eden is pretty sure this is the right answer. "I always kinda thought of it like poking things with sticks, but making sure you write down everything that happens." Giggling, she looks up at Qwillis, hoping he laughs too.
Qwillis     Qwillis chuckles softly. "That's the basis of it. Yes. It's important to have a fail clause and to be able to show that it can both pass and fail. Otherwise, it's not science, it's religion." He'd shrug a little with a grin at Eden. "Poking with sticks can work.. But it's also very basic. We know from the past that there are chemicals, energy, fusion.. There's a lot of potentials out there. It's a matter of trying to regain that information. Doing that requires study and practice. Better tools too."
Eden "Now tools i like. But I'm pretty sure you have special ones here." Eden stops short another set of babbeling and rememebrs that she is supposed to be answering questions not asking them- for at least a minute.
Qwillis     Qwillis chuckles, shaking his head a little. "I'm sure you do, Eden. No, I don't have any specific tools here for this. Just basics I've been able to scavenge. But I'm on the lookout for more. It's just really hard to find real scientific equipment out there. Most glass is broken. Most rulers bent.. so on." He'd muse before nodding to Eden. "Your first report for showing your learning.. come up with a way to prove gravity. It's fairly straight forward. But a good way to show you can follow the scientific method, hmm?"
Eden Eden thinks for a few moments. "That it exists?" Eden takes a tool from her toolbelt and drops it. "Still working." Eden isn't being snarky. She thinks she just fulfilled the assignment
Qwillis     Qwillis watches, nodding slightly. "Well, you know that something works. But did you fulfill the criteria that you listed? I'm asking you to come up with a report that has all of the steps you outlined, showing you can do this like a scientist would. It's not about what you're proving, Eden. It's about how you go about doing it."
