Iris Lark The sandstorm has brought lots of sand and other debris into the small yard in front of the Lark residence. Iris has tried to ignore it for as long as possible, but eventually it's going to need to be taken care of. Bacon lies in his tiny dog house, watching Iris pick up garbage and pile it somewhere for disposal. The sun is starting to go down and lightning can be seen on the horizon, it looks like a storm is moving in.
Rexus Rexus has a hoe in hand, idly tilling the ground in a corner of the yard. Of course, with the storm a coming and... he's really barely started, he gives up on the gardening. "Should we batten down the hatches? I mean picking it all up now only for it to return with the storm seems like a waste of energy."
Iris Lark "That's just a thunderstorm, it's ..oh you're probably right." Iris says, sighing as she gets to her feet. "I don't like storms all that much, I was trying to ignore the fact that it was coming." She walks over to the corner of the yard and points at the horizon. "Lightning especially."
Rexus Rexus wanders over towards Iris, pausing to bend down to give bacon a little scritch behind his ears before continuing on. "Least it's not another sand storm... lightning isn't too bad and some rain.. well.. might be nice to get some rain... if its clean rain."
Iris Lark "I didn't mind the sand storm, there wasn't much lightning then, it was loud but ..not scary." Iris glances over at Rexus, eyeing his more recent injuries. "How are you feeling?" She asks, just as a breeze starts to kick up. She kneels down, picks up the piglet, and hugs him close before she turns on heel and starts to head towards the front door, crooking a finger at Rexus. "I should close the windows."
Rexus Rexus dutifully moves to follow Iris, picking up anything that should be brought indoors. "Better... I'll do my best to keep it this way but... even just wandering around and finding bits and pieces of things seems to end with a few cuts and bruises."
Iris Lark "Well just be careful, I worry, you know?" Iris says, smiling over her shoulder. She sets Bacon down inside of the house and moves to start closing the doors and windows. "So how do you feel about thunderstorms? Do you like the rain?"
Rexus Rexus shrugs, "Depends... I don't mind the rain... I can endure it... I quite like it when there is rain outside but you're inside and dry... or you know you can get dry... being out in the rain with nowhere to go and just have to suck it up.. that's not as fun." he says as he heads inside, glancing at the ceiling for any signs of leaks.
Iris Lark "This is new construction, if you find a leak..well I'll yell at the men who built it." Iris says, moving into the kitchen to put a kettle on to heat. "So who is this Corwin woman who came by the store, she seemed kind of nice." She asks, taking a seat on the couch as she listens for the kettle. "Also, I managed to make a slight profit today."
Rexus Rexus takes a seat on the couch. "Yes she's a.. Brotherhood Knight from Mojave... near New Vegas... I think this is one of her first visits this far from home so. I told her to get out and meet the people, learn the lay of the land and get settled a bit." he leans back, "A profit? Well stop the press...."
Iris Lark "I'm more used to giving things away. I hate asking for money." Iris says, rolling her eyes as she pulls her feet up on the couch. "I haven't seen too many women in power armor, it looked amazing." She narrows her eyes slightly and adds. "I hope that she ends up staying, too many Brotherhood end up here, and then one day....poof they're gone." She shrugs and chuckles softly. "Not that I know enough about them to form a long lasting opinion."
Rexus Rexus leans his head from side to side, "Could go either way. I just hope she doesn't lose track of herself and go off and join the militia like the others." he says, "But, I'm sure she'll stick around... well.. I hope she does." he gives her a wry grin, "It's not too uncommon to find women in the Brotherhood, especially the Knights, you just don't notice it since they are usually wearing helmets."
Iris Lark "The militia does seem to like to gather people." Iris snickers and she settles back on the couch, her eyes on the fireplace. "Really, well it's very hard to tell who is underneath all of that armor. I almost had a set once, but.." She shrugs and chuckles softly. "I didn't really want it."
Rexus Rexus nods, "It's not for everyone." he says, tilting his head. "You know, you shouldn't feel bad about asking for money in exchange for items or something... think of it as... a way to earn more caps to buy things off people so you can increase your own supplies.. the market is all about buying and selling.. not just.. giving away."
Iris Lark "I feel bad because I want to help, and didn't have a lot of help at first myself." Iris ducks her head and sighs. "People complain about not having enough for healing... I just..I'm too kind, and I shouldn't be, because I know a lot of people are just..playing a bit. They have more than they're willing to give."
Rexus Rexus hrms, "Well, you can always... well I suppose you could charge some folks.. I mean there are those that you only see when they want healing, right? You can charge them but... maybe give a discount for people you see more often? The ones that are really just trying to help as best they can... so they aren't out for themselves... if that makes sense?"
Iris Lark "So charge the people who abuse it more?" Iris says, grinning over at Rexus. She gets to her feet and walks towards the kitchen as the kettle whistles. "That would be a bit evil, I think." She calls out, and when she comes back into the living area, the first rumble of thunder is heard.
Rexus Rexus shrugs, "Well it's a thought. I'm sure you get some right creepy folk that come by and want heals every other day.... but if they don't need anything from you they ignore you or don't visit or are just... out for themselves? I mean not a lot... maybe just charge when you need to? Keep yourself a nice healthy reserve and go from there? I know Camilla charges a fair price so she can heal people who can't afford it..."
Iris Lark "Sometimes that happens, and I do try to charge some people." Iris says, and she gazes at Rexus, a slight grin on her face. "I don't charge you, would you consider yourself creepy folk?" She pours the tea, takes a seat again and curls up on the couch. "I need to hire a bodyguard, honestly."
Rexus Rexus smirks, "Me? Creepy? Of course not." he says, leaning forward to take up a cup of tea. "I'll just have to block up that little hole I bored in the wall..." he murmurs playfully. The talk of bodyguarding causes him to smirk, "Bodyguards.. can be iffy... you seem to handle that gauss rifle pretty well as it is!"
Iris Lark Iris shifts her gaze to Rexus and doesn't say anything at first, just smirks. "Yes, but I often don't want to fire it. I feel bad." She takes a sip of her tea wrinkles her nose. "I hope you have a hole bored into the right wall." She says, raising her cup as if in a toast. "Because if not, you're going to see parts of Qwillis that you might not want to see."
Rexus Rexus grins, "I was teasing." he says as he sips at his tea. "Why bore a hole when you can just use a camera?" he says with another impish little chuckle. "How goes the General store? Buy anything special today? Any good sales apart from that laser rifle?"
Iris Lark "I sold a few clothing items, and I bought a cattle prod." Iris says, and she has a slightly evil glint in her eyes as she giggles. "I have no clue why, but I really wanted that cattle prod. I can imagine myself just zapping people who are..well..evil, I guess." A rumble of thunder seems to shake the house, and light flashes outside, lighting up the dark. She jumps at the flash and gazes towards the window for a few quiet moments before she takes another sip of her tea.
Rexus Rexus hardly seems phased by the thunder, apart from a look outside and a sip of tea. "Mmm hmmmm... a cattle prod instead of a rolling pin?" he muses. "I ought to look at getting an outfit made for myself... something a little fancier than this wastelander attire."
Iris Lark "I havaen't found much of a need to be fancy, sadly." Iris responds, setting her tea next to her. "I haven't had anything new or pretty since.." She goes quiet to think, doesn't like the answer and shrugs. "What kind of fancy are you looking for, and where would you wear it?"
Rexus Rexus lightly scratchs his chin, "Oh.. not fancy just... a little.. more unique... maybe a coat.. a uniform underneath... a little more... appropriate.." he says with a little shrug. "What about your maid outfit? And jewelry?"
Iris Lark Iris turns pink and she covers her face with her hands right at the moment thunder rolls through the house again. Of course, this makes her jump, and almost yelp. She doesn't look at Rexus as she picks up her mug again. "That maid outfit isn't fancy, and it's just for work." She blinks and glances over at him then, both eyebrows raised. "Jewelry?"
Rexus Rexus doesn't respond to Iris's jumpiness, everyone has their quirks. "Mmm, true.. work outfits aren't really... outfits per se." he says, taking another sip of tea as his eyes flutter over Iris, "Jewelry.. you know.. shiny stuff.... you've heard of it, right? Earrings, necklaces... rings... the like."
Iris Lark Iris is startled into nervous laughter and she shakes her head. "No.. I've never had any of that either." She says, gazing down at her hands and briefly at her nails before she smiles over at Rexus. "Unless you count a shackle as an anklet." She tries to soften the words with a wry grin and shrugs. "I always did want a pair of earrings though, dangly ones..with stones. Pretty ones."
Rexus Rexus makes some mental notes, "What about necklaces or chains?" he asks, tilting his head. "Gold.. silver... sparkling ones you wear around your neck.. or wrists.. or hips.." he says, just spitballing really. "They are quite popular in the East.. well.. relatively... they come out for special occassions."
Iris Lark Iris looks thoughtful and then a lightning flash makes her eyes go slightly wide for a moment. "Uhm..oh.. well.." She glances nervously at the window and frowns a bit. "I've seen earrings, and a few necklaces here, but as to the rest.." She looks slightly helpless and lost. "Why do people wear jewelry, to..kind of show off their wealth? That's not something I try to do."
Rexus Rexus shakes his head, "No not always. Sometimes it's a gift... some feel appreciated when they get it.. others see it as a decoration.. like fancy clothes... really it's up to the person. It used to be customary to give a lady you fancy some nice jewelry." he says, tilting his head, "Little scared of lighting and thunder? I know, it can be a bit shocking... and surprising when it happens."
Iris Lark "Well..a few years ago, I saw a man in full armor get struck by lightning. I'll never forget it." Iris says, and she looks slightly nervous just speaking about it. "Tents did not afford the best coverage and..well.." She clings to the other subject to get away from the one just discussed. "So it's a present, kind of..a declaration?"
Rexus Rexus mmmms, "Can be. Really depends on the manner in which it was given and the relationship between the two people." he says, "Sometimes someone might make a piece from scratch.. and it may not look the best but... the thought and work that went into it makes it very special to the recipient.. generally."
Iris Lark "I used to know a gentleman named Harlan who liked to make nice things. I bet he would have made jewlery if he didn't wander back out into the wastes." Iris says, and she sets her tea on a side table. "Blacksmithing doesn't look easy, but I guess when you're making things, it's kind of worth it in the end."
Rexus Rexus shrugs, "Some people just get some string and put valuable things on them.. little tokens... often the most sentimental pieces aren't covered in jewels or gems... little things that both people know is valuable to them....."
Iris Lark "Jewels and gems and precious metals are only an advertisement to people that you're ripe for mugging." Iris murmurs, and she crosses one leg over the other and huffs out a soft sigh. She tilts her head up and listens, and the rumbles of thunder seemed to have moved south a bit, which puts her more at ease. "It's bad enough that people have attacked me over this cap that I have. I started hiding it, in case they followed me home and tried to rummage through my things."
Rexus Rexus smiles, "I might get you a little something to wear... not.. like when you're out and about but.. just in here..." he says, pondering for a moment. "Nothing fancy.. I think it would look good on you." he adds, leaning back into the couch. "Indeed... ripe for mugging but.. i'm sure that gauss rifle makes you a most unwise target."
Iris Lark "It's not great for close quarters combat and I am certainly not the type to throw a punch." Iris says, a wide grin on her face. "Something to just wear a home?" She looks slightly skeptical and her head tilts as she eyes Rexus. "It isn't another thing like this maid outfit is it?"
Rexus Rexus blinks, "What? Oh no no no. Nothing like that.. it's.. far more simple... maybe a bit on the elegant side.. not sure if its your thing.. it's.. basically a necklace you wear around your waist."
Iris Lark "That sounds pretty." Iris says, and a few minutes pass before she speaks again. "You could wear it on your neck too, right? I mean, it would be a bit longer than a regular necklace.." She glances down towards her belly button. "Maybe I should make a dress of sorts, or do you wear something like that with jeans?"
Rexus Rexus nods, "I imagine you could... a dress... skirts.. it's one of those things you could wear with anything really..." he says, shifting a bit on the couch, evidently squirming. "Annnyways..." he says, doing his best to focus on his tea and not Iris.
Iris Lark "You look nervous. I'm not going to yell at you anymore for going out and getting hurt. You don't seem to be the sort that is able to sit still." Iris says, offering an apologetic smile in Rexus' general directiton. "Besides, yelling at you in front of other people is kind of rude, and I've gotten into that habit, haven't I?"
Rexus Rexus clears his throat, "Oh no, not.. not that." he says, raising a hand to cover a cough. He uses that time to try to catch a glimpse of Iris's middle, "Anways..." changing the subject, "I thought I might lead a patrol tomorrow... see what Corwin has in her as far as fighting ability."
Iris Lark "Where at? If I can, I'll come along in case someone gets hurt." Iris says, her eyes watching Rexus get slightly shifty. She gets to her feet and walks over to him, shaking her head. "Are you still wrapped? No wonder you're uncomfortable, your ribs might be okay now." She sits next to him and smiles. "Want me to check?" She's already reaching out towards him as she speaks.
Rexus Rexus ehms, getting a little flustered.. it's his turn this time! "What... yes.. I mean.. no.. what... hey.... what..." he stammers, Iris's sudden nearness causing his cheeks to flush a little more, "I'm.. i'm fine, really..." Oh this is so embarassing.
Iris Lark Iris giggles softly and she reaches for the hem of Rexus' shirt. "Which is it, yes or no?" She says, and when he looks flustered she keeps her hands to herself mostly and folds them in her lap. "Well you're not fine, you got hurt again, but if your ribs aren't injured staying wrapped isn't good for you." She tentitively reaches out again, both eyebrows raised.
Rexus Rexus raises his arms above his head at that, "Well.. it wouldn't hurt to get it looked at.. make sure everything is.. healed up..." he says, "If anything you might be able to re-use the bandages for something.. right?" yes, anything to keep his mind off other things.
Iris Lark "You can keep using these bandages, yes. They'll just need washed." Iris starts to unwrap the bandages, her attention not on Rexus as she concentrates on what she's doing. "You really ought to speak up if you're uncomfortable, I'm happy to do what I can to help." She looks at him then and smiles. "There, give me a stretch, something small."
Rexus Rexus keeps his arms in the air as he sort of bends to the left.. then to the right.. then back.. then forward, just testing. "Seems alright.. little sore but... nothing super painful." he says, kind of catching a glance at Iris, "It's not.. uncomfortable.. just.. something else." he says dismissively, lowering his arms and looking for his shirt. "Seems i'm almost as good as new."
Iris Lark Iris hands Rexus his shirt and gets to her feet, gathering the cups and giving him a look as she makes her way to the kitchen. The sounds of banging pots and pans can clearly be heard as it seems that someone has decided to take her emotions out on her sink.
Rexus Rexus quickly dons his shirt, raising an eyebrow as he hears the banging and clanking from the kitchen. Either a molerat's gotten into the house or.. somethings amiss. Standing, he trudges over to the kitchen door and peers inside, "Something the matter?"
Iris Lark "I don't know, is there?" Iris turns, and she lets out a sigh as she studies Rexus for a few moments. She turn sback to the sink and finishes washing the few dishes that were in the soapy water, setting them aside to air dry. "I"m glad you're feeling better, cracked ribs are never fun, and you can't do much when you're waiting for them to knit."
Rexus Rexus hrms, biting his lip a bit. Taking a breath, he steps into the kitchen, slooowly walking up behind Iris so he doesn't surprise her, "Sorry I just... know... I didn't want to come off as..." he sighs, "Just another... you know...." he says, eyes downcast a little, one hand reaching up to lightly comb his fingers through her hair.
Iris Lark Iris takes a deep breath and she doesn't turn towards him for a moment, her arms folding over her chest. She does turn after a few minutes though and she smiles up at him reaching out to clasp his hand in both of hers. "I don't know, but you don't come off badly to me at all, if you had..I wouldn't have invited you to convalesce here." She nibbles at her lip for a moment and then realizes she's grabbed onto his hand and lets go quickly, apologizing.
Rexus Rexus smiles, letting his hands drift a little lower to rest at her hips, "Don't apologize. You know you don't have to keep all your emotions cooped up all the's good to let them out every so often, it's quite liberating." he says, putting himself to the test as he leans down, planting a gentle, chaste little kiss against her forehead.
Iris Lark "If only you knew." Iris murmurs, her face pink, but she doesn't move away. "You're right though, keeping emotions cooped up isn't good for you." She glances up at Rexus then, a shy smile on her face. "I play it close to the vest for a good reason though."
Rexus Rexus nods, "And so you should, until you're comfortable." he says, glancing out the window. "Well at least the storm is moving away... should sleep soundly tonight!" he says with a smile, trying to move onto more light-hearted topics.
Iris Lark Iris clears her throat and turns, taking a few steps towards the window, opening it and sniffing at tthe air outside. "Indeed." She says before she glances over her shoulder to grin at Rexus. "Getting sick of the couch yet? We can trade." She points through the archway towards the bedroom. "Nice and comfy, heck, I can even sleep out on the porch in the hammock."
Rexus Rexus shakes his head, "Oh no no... this is your castle.. you deserve the comfy bed. I'm fine with the couch." he says, making sure all the dishes are dried and tidied up. "Soon I'll get the resources to buy my own little place."
Iris Lark Iris lets out a soft sigh and chuckles. "As you say, I won't insist." She says waggling a finger at Rexus. "If you need any more blankets or anything, just..make yourself at home, okay?" She shifts on her feet, glancing out the open window. "Maybe tomorrow I'll have my thoughts managed and we can talk."
Rexus Rexus wipes his hands dry, "There's certainly no rush, and I don't want to impose or anything." he says, making sure everything is tidy one last time. "But I suppose I should be off... see how the wall is doing before I head to bed."
Iris Lark "Don't not stay here because of.." Iris gestures towards the sink and she lets out a sigh. "We'll talk about it, when we know?" She moves towards her bedroom and reaches out to gently pat his face as she passes. "Thank you for keeping me company, as always Rexus. I enjoy it."
Rexus Rexus lifts a hand, gingerly taking hers for the briefest of moments to plant a little kiss against her knuckles, "Anytime." he says, letting go before returning to the main living room, getting his couch-bed all made up and ready for sleep.
